Because we've had a couple of Opponauts ask about computer recommendations, let me show off my pair. The Dell on the left is my personal and the ThinkPad on the right is work issued. Honestly, I prefer my work machine, except for the lack of Linux. However, when I bought my personal one, I was working for Dell Services Federal Government, so..

I bought the Dell when I worked for Dell Services Federal Government, with my corporate discount at the time. My new employer doesn't issue Macs, plus I'm a Linux guy at heart.

Ah, well I feel for you on Linux (VMware fusion with ubuntu 13.04) I use a 2007.5 MBP with a C2D and 4GB of DDR2 ram :)
